CHET ZAR

Live Painting Seminar

Chet Zar - Live Painting Seminar

In this seminar Chet Zar will cover the techniques and materials I use to create my oil paintings. I will go over creating the initial sketch, painting a small study and creating the final painting.
Some of the subjects I will be covering are reference, tools and materials, under painting, value, color, composition, texture, glazing…and a whole lot more. I will start with a rough sketch and discuss subject, value and composition decisions. Next will be a small study, which will focus on color, value and troubleshooting the final piece.

Finally, I will create the final painting. This will be the longest part of the seminar and cover the subjects stated above. I will also be covering my experiences as an artist and thoughts on art throughout the demo.
There will be limited space for artists with some painting experience to set up and paint during the demo but simple observation and note taking is also encouraged. I will leave that up to you. I will be happy to go around to those who decide to paint or sketch and offer suggestions and/or criticism at the end of the day. Also, if time allows we can do a final question and answer session.

Saturday 1pm - 4pm

@ seminar room 2nd floor

Cost:
$180
/ Course Length: 3 hours

For over a decade Gabe Ripley has been immersed in the business of tattooing. After a freelance computer programming career in the US and Europe, Gabe first stepped into the tattoo business world in 2001 by creating TattooNOW, a technology business that currently powers over 100 tattoo industry websites around the world and has since helped tattooers generate millions of dollars in business. In 2005, based on the success of TattooNOW's websites, Ripley opened Off the Map Tattoo. By constantly improving the studio's business practices, it now boasts over 50 guest artists a year, and a growing business in a slowing economy. Not one to settle, in 2008 Ripley started using the same business practices to produce two yearly events, the Paradise Tattoo Gathering and Paradise Artist Retreat. These events are focused on four days of responsible tattoo and art education and have earned an international reputation. Gabe presented this seminar to over 200 artists at the first Worldwide Tattoo Conference in Rome in October 2011. "Everybody gave me good feedback because you gave to the artists good, easy, and interesting suggestions!" said Alex DePase the conference's promoter of the business seminar.
